MISSISSAUGA – Tomken Road Middle School’s First Lego League team finished second at the Ontario provincial competition where 40 finalist teams competed at the University of Waterloo. For finishing second, the team, known as ADDi2de, has earned the opportunity to compete at the international rounds of their choice, in either Sydney, Australia or Carlsbad, California. At the regional competition in Brampton, the team finished in first place. The students, who range in age from Grade 6 to 8, were challenged to come up with a health-related device and also compete in obstacle courses with their Lego robot. The nine-member team (five boys and four girls) designed an organization app and headband that measures focus level to help students with Attention Deficit Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADD/ADHD) stay on task. Their robot design included a carrying claw, a ball thrower, a ‘dumper’ to place object and ‘turner’ to manipulate handles.
