The Classy Cyborgs, FLL team from Lester B. Pearson P.S., Aurora, ON, is one of 20 semi-finalists selected to compete in the Global Innovation Award competition to be held at World Festival in St. Louis April 22-25. The team’s project innovation was chosen from 527 entries representing 22 countries. Winner of the “Innovative Solution Award” at the FLL York Regional Tournament, the Classy Cyborg’s World Class Challenge question is “How can we improve the way blind children learn Braille”? The team’s Treasure Box Braille learning program pairs emerging haptic technology with tablet software. They’ve adapted what they love about video learning games to create an audio version for the blind. The team is grateful for the following industry leaders who are mentoring the team: CEO, Tactalis; Director of Technology, Perkins School for the Blind, Canadian National Institute for the Blind, and a Professor at Georgia Tech and NASA scientist.
